I bought an ASUS K52J laptop about an year ago. It had already preinstalled copy of windows 7, and after the first configuration it made me do recovery disks I am currently using to do 'disk formatting'. My problem is that this preinstalled copy is ina way 'locked' - it doesn't allow me to install another system, even if it is the very same windows 7 (that I have received through dreamspark project for students).What I'd like to do is just perform a standard clean installation of win 7 over this picky one, yet I am unable to do so due to that weird operating system lock.Is it possible? In the device manager I have listing of no drivers for 'Base System Device' under other devices. I re downloaded and installed all of the drivers for everything that I have. There's a few topics related to this. Download the latest Chipset drivers from intel.put that file in a folder and open a command prompt by right clicking in that folder.in the command prompt dialogue type: infinstautol.exe -overallreboot and go to device manager then scan for hardware changes there just to be sure you got em all.you will have to install MEI drivers to collapse the PCI simple communications controller, but it's not necessary if you do not use AISuite.I copied and pasted that from a thread i started with the same problem that is now solved.
I wanted to post this in this thread cus it's the one i found from from google originally searching for a solution and will hopefully help a lot of people out. Hi all, I am also on Win 7 64 with RE4 and having the same issue with base system device. I downloaded the latest drives as above, from Intel and Asus. Most all of the base system device drivers updated in my Device manager except 1 under - other devices which lists the following HardWare ID'sPCIVEN8086&DEV0EB6&SUBSYS84EF1043&REV04PCIVEN8086&DEV0EB6&SUBSYS84EF1043PCIVEN8086&DEV0EB6&CC088000PCIVEN8086&DEV0EB6&CC0880I have searched heaven and earth and cant get it to update (I wonder if this may be the cause of some BSOD's I get with oc'ing)but if anyone knows a fix please please help:-(.
